We had booked an early flight from Amsterdam to Manchester. Our trip was very smooth: we departed and arrived at almost the exact same time! From Manchester Airport we went to the Etihad Stadium of Manchester City by train for a guided tour at the stadium of Pep Guardiola’s men. The tour was really great, despite of the large group we had. The guy was a real joker and told us a lot of nice anecdotes – the tour is really a must!

After the guided tour we travelled on to Liverpool by train to check in at our hotel. We were staying at the Pullman Hotel at Kings Dock, a really nice hotel! After checking in and inspecting our beautiful room we went to the city centre of Liverpool to enjoy some delicious Fish and Chips, with a cold drink of course!

Match day! After a delicious breakfast we went to visit a museum before travelling to Anfield by public transport. We went early to optimal enjoy the atmosphere in and around the stadium. Although it was early it was already pretty crowded and we enjoyed the great atmosphere. Many locals and diehard supporters were singing songs about Virgil van Dijk – very special for Dutch people to experience something like that over there. After a quick tour before the match – not exactly recommended – we went to the Liverpool giftshop. And then the moment arrived: singing You Never Walk Alone out loud in the Anfield Stadium. LOVELY!

Liverpool started of the strongest, and the first goal was made by Roberto Firmino. During the continuing game, the Spurs became better and changed the score into 1-1 – not so great when you’re sitting at The Kop with the most fanatical supporters! Tottenham even had a chance to make it 1-2, but fortunately the ball just missed the goal. In the nineteenth minute Liverpool finally scored again, winning the match with 2-1. What a relieve! It was as if Anfield exploded, and everybody kept singing until the final second of the match. Such an experience!

Before flying back from Manchester to Amsterdam we first had another guided tour, this time at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s stadium. The tour was also really fun and is definitely recommended! After this we went home, tired but satisfied.

The entire football trip (a big compliment to Number1!) went exactly as planned and was everything we hoped for – it didn’t even rain!
