Scottish Premiership football trips

The Scottish Premiership is the top level of the football league system in Scotland. The Premiership was formed by merging the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League in 2013. It is contested by 12 clubs, each club playing three matches against each other every season; different from all the other leagues in Europe. At the end of the season, the league splits into two halves, the best six and the bottom six. Every group consists out of six clubs and they all face each other once, which makes them all playing 38 matches. At the end of the season, the bottom placed club is relegated to the Scottish Championship.

Visit The Old Firm

Despite of having only 12 clubs in the Premiership, the Scottish top division has several derbies, even one of the most famous derbies in the world, The Old Firm. It’s the match between city-rivals Celtic and Glasgow Rangers. The two clubs are the most popular and successful clubs in Scotland, and the rivalry between them is known to be one of the fiercest rivalries in football worldwide. In 2012, Glasgow Rangers were declared bankrupt and were placed in the 4th tier of the Scottish League. Because of that, the Old Firm didn't take place for several years. In the 2016/17 season, the Rangers were promoted back to the Premiership.
