"Let’s Buy Back The Vic"

Watford had to share their stadium several times after settling in Vicarage Road. Wealdstone FC and rugby association Saracens both played in the stadium for a number of years. Watford experienced financial difficulties after purchasing the freehold of the stadium in 2002. They were forced to sell and lease back the stadium a year later. A campaign was held, named: "Let’s Buy Back The Vic", so fans could donate a sum of money to buy back Watford’s club. Elton John even performed at the stadium and all proceeds were used to buy back the stadium. The campaign proved to be successful: Watford bought back the stadium after eight months and the rights were entirely theirs again thanks to all the donations.

The Sir Elton John Stand

Everybody knows him: the world-famous Elton John. Elton John used to be a chairman of Watford and helped develop Vicarage Road a lot. Despite of the concert he gave in the stadium to get the stadium’s freehold back, he also donated a sum of money so the club would be able to finance the reconstruction of the Graham Taylor Stand. In gratitude of that, Watford decided to name a stand after Elton John: The Sir Elton John Stand. The stand was opened by Elton John himself on December 13, 2014. The other stands in the stadium are the Rookery Stand and the Vicarage Road Stand.
