MEWA Arena

During your football trip to Mainz, a visit to this arena is actually essential. Step inside the Mewa Arena, a football stadium located in Mainz, Germany. This stadium is the battleground of the famous German football club FSV Mainz 05. Over the years, the stadium has gone by different names, including Coface Arena (until mid-2016) and Opel Arena (until mid-2021). Did you know that FSV Mainz is a state-of-the-art stadium as well as having its own honey bee colonies, which produce delicious blossom honey?

Trip down memory lane

The Coface Arena opened its doors on 3 July 2011. Before then, the 05ER played their home matches at the Bruchwegstadion. The MEWA Arena has a capacity of 34,034 seats, of which 7,000 are standing. During European matches, standing places are not allowed to be used, so the stadium's capacity then stands at 26,600.

The stadium currently owes its name to a German linen rental company, which has had a sponsorship contract with the club since July 2021. Because the stadium is still relatively new, it scores tremendously well on environmental friendliness. In the 2019/20 season, the entire stadium lighting has been converted to LED. In addition, the club is always looking for creative solutions to become sustainably active. 40 per cent of the replaced lamps are now in use at another location, a ski jumping facility.
