Visit Brussels during football trip

Belgium can proudly say that they have the beautiful city of Brussels as capital. The popular city is much visited by tourists who come from all over the world to admire this open-air museum. It’s therefore highly recommended to take a detour and visit this city when going on a football trip of KAA Gent, Club Brugge, RSC Anderlecht or Standard Luik!

Reachability of Brussels

When booking a football trip to Belgium, it would be extremely fun to add a city trip to your football trip. You can either decide to stay at the city the football match will take place in, or you could take a little detour to Brussels. You just have to visit the capital of Belgium once, especially when you're in the relatively tiny country! Fortunately, Brussels can be reached easily by car from the cities of the clubs Number 1 Football Travel offers. The distance between Bruges and Brussels is 101,8 kilometres and is the farthest away from Brussels. It will take a little less than one and a half hours to get there by car. It will take about one hour and ten minutes to reach the capital from Luik and the distance between the cities is 95,1 kilometres. Are you travelling from Gent to Brussels? Then you only have to spent 50 minutes in the car, because the city is only 55,1 kilometres away from Brussels. When you've chosen to go on a football trip to Anderlecht, you don’t have to travel far to Brussels, because Anderlecht RSC is stationed in Brussels. If you want to know how to reach Brussels through public transportation, then you should consult this website.

The Manneken Pis

This small statue attracts millions of tourists every year. Unbelievable, right? But absolutely justified, because the statue has a rich history. The small sculpture was stolen several times in the past and it was even smashed to pieces once. Luckily, a replica could be made and a tradition originated: dressing the little man with costumes. You can see around 700 costumes in the City Museum of Brussels. You cannot leave Brussels without taking a picture of the little peeing man!

Address: at the corner of the Stoofstraat and Eikstraat

Atomium

The Atomium is usually seen as the second landmark to characterize the city besides the Manneken Pis. This artwork is seen as the Eiffeltower of Brussel and was built for the World Expo of 1958. It’s a 150 billion times enlarged iron atom which is 102 metres high. Do you want to admire the beautiful city from one of the bulbs? This is perfectly possible! You can visit six bulbs, even the upper one. Exhibitions are held in the other bulbs, which might be nice to visit, too! It might be clever to buy tickets before visiting the Atomium.

The Bruparck

The chances of you walking into Bruparck after visiting the Atomium are grand. This ‘amusement park’ is divided into four parts: The Village, Kinepolis, Mini-Europe and Océade. You can visit The Village for free and you can shop, eat, party and play with the kids here. Mini-Europe shows – as the name suggests – a miniature of Europe. The swimming paradise Océade is not only fun for children, but also for adults. The swimming pool is full of glides and much more. Lastly, you can swoon while watching a romantic movie or let a thriller scare you at the Kinepolis. The biggest IMAX-screen of Europe is in one of the rooms and that is certainly worth a visit!

Address: Eeuwfeestlaan 20, 1020 Brussels, Belgium

The Grand-Place of Brussels

The Grand-Place of Brussels is in the historical centre of Belgium. This is the most fun square, because it’s full of inviting terraces, and you’ll be surrounded by ancient architecture. This centre is not called ‘The Grand-Place’ for nothing: a flower market is held every day and the popular bird market is held on Sunday. A number of museums are adjacent to the square. Like the City Museum of Brussels and the Beer Museum, where you'll follow the production process of beer from the 18th century up until now and you will taste a brewed Belgium beer at the end of the tour!
